What is Reverse Osmosis?
Anyone who has been through a high school science class will likely be familiar with the term
osmosis.
The process was first described by a French Scientist in 1748, who noted that water spontaneously
diffused through a pig bladder membrane into alcohol. Over 200 years later, a modification of this
process known as reverse osmosis allows people throughout the world to affordably convert
undesirable
water into water that is virtually free of health or aesthetic contaminants. Reverse osmosis systems
can
be found providing treated water from the kitchen counter in a private residence to installations
used
in manned spacecraft.
Reverse Osmosis is a technology that is found virtually anywhere pure water is needed;
How the Reverse Osmosis system works?
Reverse Osmosis is a process in which dissolved inorganic solids (such as salts) are removed from a
solution (such as water). This is accomplished by household water pressure pushing the tap water
through
a semi permeable membrane. The membrane (which is about as thick as cellophane) allows only the
water to
pass through, not the impurities or contaminates. These impurities and contaminates are flushed down
the
drain.
What does a Reverse Osmosis system remove?
A reverse osmosis membrane will remove impurities and particles larger than .001 microns.
Process of an RO Purifier
Step 1: Pre filter 5 micron to remove suspended material such as sediments, insects,
fiber, asbestors,
rust and dust etc.
Step 2: Granular Activated carbon to reduce chlorine, colour, odor and absorbs
volatile organic
components from feed water.
Step 3: Activated carbon block filter to absorb complete chlorine, odor, colour and
organic chemicals
from feed water.
Step 4: Membrane with pores of 0.0001mic removes water contaminants such as heavy
metals, access salts
and waterborne microorganisms such as virus, bacteria etc.
Step 5: Post Carbon filter to remove bad taste and order, improves water taste and
enhances
anti-bacterial function by silver granular activated carbon.
